Formation required a model to show a clean behavioral gap, reliable interface use, and direct teachability before a developmental comparison could begin. Turning those requirements into executable gates exposed real interface and computation failures. It also made model admission the work of the project.
When the gate takes over
A gate is useful when it excludes a run that cannot answer the research question. It has taken over when every result leads to another prerequisite and no result reaches the phenomenon under study.
The project may then produce careful evidence about which models fail a chosen interface. It still has no evidence about whether consequence can change later practice. This is rigorous non-contact.
The correction is not to discard the gates. Close their findings and reduce their authority. Choose one model that can perform the specific role, hold its interface constant across conditions, and let imperfect behavior enter an exploratory contact.
Theory before another prerequisite
When conceptual uncertainty keeps producing new gates, the next step may be a derivation rather than another operation. State which observations would distinguish development from raw persistence, static instruction, or help from the experimental harness. Then build only the instrument required to observe that difference.
Questions to carry forward
Which failure makes a result impossible to interpret? Which failure merely makes the result untidy? Is the model being selected because the question requires it, or because it makes the protocol easier to run? What uncertainty has the apparatus prevented the project from meeting?
